It is an excellent chance to practice and improve your drawing skills. In a very informal setting we get a range of models to draw, with short poses of 2 minutes to longer poses up to 30min. A very good opportunity to try our various different techniques. The models are mainly lit from a single source which gives good tonal range with a clear 3D modelling which in particular are very useful for the longer poses. My preferred method is to do tonal drawings in charcoal often rendering the background darker than the model. The venue with the way the lights are set up etc is ideal for this method. The club is run on a drop in basis and very reasonally priced at £8 for a two hour session, or £35 for 6 two hour sessions. Members of the group have become good friends and we often enjoy a drink together in the pub after the session. New members, are always welcome. Highly recommended!
This isn't just a brilliantly run life drawing class, this is a lovely evening out! A beautiful venue, great models, gorgeous music and a really friendly crowd of people. I would recommend it to all!
Great weekday night out - the room is lovely, the music mellow. The models are very helpful, the atmosphere cosy and welcoming, and all drawing abilities are welcome. Two hours of drawing (with a break) feels just the right amount, certainly long enough to get some good pictures. And those who feel like it hang about for drinks afterwards. Met some great people though this, and Betty is a star for running it. Simon
I love the drawing room. I wish I could go every week. As mentioned by a few others I have made some very lovely friends there and heard many a tale. I also model on occasion which has been a wonderful experience as it's so comfortable and beautifully set up. Occasionally Betty bids myself and my accomplices perform, we created an evening called "life Drawing with added frills" where you can draw and be entertained by burlesque performers Salacious Sirens. Again it is a most enjoyable affair for all involved and it only stokes the burning love I have for this little haven just off Coldharbour lane.
Myself and my fellow Salacious Sirens absolutely love performing at The Drawing Room on the 19th April and are very excited about repeating the event very soon- we have lots of ideas to challenge and surprise the artists!
I also love attending The Drawing Room simply to sketch (and occasionally model); it's such a relaxed, informal atmosphere and a lovely and interesting bunch of people, as well as a great way to improve your drawing skills.

Hello Betty :-) The last session - Drawing with Extra Frills - was fantastic :-) My cheeks have not hurt so much in a long time, let alone after a session of drawing :-) The group, and the people who have been drawn towards it are an absolute are an absolute treasure ;-)
I love The Drawing Room. It has become my little temple of happiness: chilled out pub, great music, beautiful models and wonderful people. This is my first time drawing and I’ve come addicted thanks to Betty and drawing fellows!
